Share the Fare

Showing support to the coastal BC communities who have chosen Harbour Air for over 40 years is what Share the Fare is all about.

We’re sharing and you can too.

In addition to volunteering our time in the communities we serve, every Friday at Harbour Air is a “Share the Fare Friday!” For every Friday passenger flying with us, we’ll donate $1 on your behalf to a carefully selected project at The BC Cancer Foundation.

You can help make a difference with a Share the Fare donation of your own on any flight, any day. Ask us how!

Sharing above & beyond.

Our Share the Fare program works alongside our ongoing commitments to giving back in our communities. Since Share the Fare started, we have donated on behalf of more than 65,000 passengers, raising more than $230,00! For more information on Harbour Air’s sponsorship and donations, please click here.

Sharing where it means the most.

In 2022, funds raised will be utilized to support PSMA PET Imaging a form of advanced imaging for prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Canada. This new technology will allow for optimized treatment for men with prostate cancer, improving quality of life and saving more lives.

As a BC based organization, Harbour Air aims to have a meaningful impact on people’s lives and the communities where we operate. We know that cancer is the #1 health issue on British Columbians’ minds and BC Cancer is a global leader in advancing research, enhancing care and breaking down cancer to benefit the people of BC.

Through Share the Fare and Harbour Air’s Ride to Conquer Cancer/Tour de Cure initiatives, we have raised more than $1,725,000 to date.

Making a difference. Fly to Conquer Cancer.

Each year, Harbour Air carefully selects an in-need project at BC Cancer, where we see exciting potential to make a meaningful and lasting impact in improving cancer outcomes. Over the past three years the funds have supported:

  • In 2018, funds were utilized to support the development of a new form of cancer treatment called radionuclide therapy, resulting in a new clinical trial at BC Cancer now being underway for prostate cancer patients.
  • In 2019, funds targeted a study called LOGIC, helping advance care for patients with GI Cancers. The study involves utilizing a high-tech blood test that can detect find tiny fragments of the cancer’s DNA – called ctDNA – in the patient’s blood and aid in precise treatment decisions and earlier detection to support early detection of recurrence.
  • And, in 2020 and 2021, Share the Fare funds have been utilized to support the Sorenson Lab at the BC Cancer Research Institute. This lab focuses entirely on childhood cancers and researches the use of highly targeted and innovative immunotherapy treatment options. Harnessing the power of the patients own immune system, immunotherapy can target the cancer with more preciseness, less toxicity, and has proven to be highly effective.

Q: What BC Cancer project is Harbour Air currently supporting?

A:

In 2022, funds raised will be utilized to support PSMA PET Imaging a form of advanced imaging for prostate cancer, which is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in Canada. This new technology will allow for optimized treatment for men with prostate cancer, improving quality of life and saving more lives.

Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) is an enzyme located at the surface of the prostate cells and can act as a powerful biomarker for prostate cancer. When compared to conventional imaging, PSMA PET imaging is far more accurate in identifying metastatic disease for men that are high risk prostate cancer patients.

Benefits of this imaging include:

  • Improving outcomes by being able to provide more appropriate proven treatment for metastatic disease
  • Reducing unnecessary toxicity by avoiding radical surgery and radiotherapy when a cure is not possible
  • Increasing use of curative treatments
