2016, The Year in Review: Part III
We were fortunate to have many reasons to celebrate the Harbour Air team's success in 2016! Read on and relive some of our most meaningful team moments from the past year, presented here in no particular order.
Being one of Canada's Best Managed Companies is a big honour, and it was extra special this year to join the "Platinum Club" of recipients who have maintained their Best Managed status for seven years or more!
When one of your core company values is Team Spirit, recognition as one of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers is especially meaningful! Evaluated on eight different criteria, only 100 employers make the cut for this annual nationwide award.
Building a one-of-a-kind floating seaplane terminal is a challenge, but buidling one that stands up next to architectiral landmarks like the Fairmont Empress hotel and BC Legislature is no small feat! We love our new floating home in Victoria's Inner Harbour, and as it turns out, so does the Victoria Real Estate Board (VREB). The Victoria Harbour Airport took home hardware in not just one, but two different categories at the VREB Commercial Building Awards in November. Big congratulations as well to our build partners, Cityspaces Consulting and Canpro Construction!
We were delighted in January when we were named Business of the Year at the 16th annual Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards Gala! Recognition alongside so many other notable island businesses was a real highlight of 2016 and we are grateful to Business Examiner Vancouver Island for the honour.
Not only were we honoured as an employer and as a business this past year, but also honoured to see our team members receive individual recognition too! Such was the case when Shawn Bariden was included in WINGS Magazine's coveted Top 20 Under 40 list. Shawn is an integral part of Harbour Air's airctaft mantenance 'wing,' Aeroflite International, and we were so excited to see him noted amonst his industry-leading peers - way to go Shawn!
Speaking of team members who received high honours this year, we couldn't forget Harbour Air pilot & photographer Jason Pineau. Jason's artistic eye and technical skill behind the lens won him the grand prize in Skies Magazine's Annual Photo Contest with a pre-dawn shot of two de Havilland Beavers warming their engines in Sechelt!
Stay tuned to this space as we look back on 2016's highlights, more still to come!
