Harbour Air Seaplanes

2016, The Year in Review: Part I

2016, The Year in Review: Part I

What a year it's been! While it's true that 2016 did "fly by," so many great things happened this past year that we wanted to take a look back at them before we get into all the excitement that will be 2017.

In Part I, we take a look at some of the biggest happenings around Harbour Air this year. Read on below as we take a tour of 2016's highlights.

Royal -Honour

Late September and Early October saw Vancouver and Victoria abuzz as the world watched their royal highnesses The Cambridges visit Canada for the first time as a family. Needless to say, we were more than honoured to show the royal family how we west-coasters get around with two separate seaplane flights over the eight day visit. It was truly wonderful hosting the young royal family and we look forward to following their journeys and hope to see them back again sometime very soon!

Home -Afloat

It was a long time coming, but 2016 saw the (literal) arrival of a new passenger gateway as the Victoria Harbour Airport was towed into place amongst our newly upgraded seaplane docks in Victoria. The $5 million facility is a true "first-class upgrade" for passengers and guests and has been widely applauded (more on that later). We're not through yet either, stay tuned for more exciting news about this in 2017 as well!

Tails -that -Turn -Heads

A few of our favourite tails got an overhaul this year: 604, one of our two Twin Otter aircraft now proudly sports the blue, yellow and white of the Harbour Air livery, while C-FLAP (an entirely perfect name for an airplane), is adorned with the Saltspring Air brand - a first for an Otter!

Today we had a sneak peek of FLAP the otter, new to the Salt Spring Air fleet. We will be showing it off on our customer appreciation day on May 19th. #saltspring

Lounge -with -Libations

Flying through Coal Harbour? How about a beer while you're here? It's possible, thanks to the new Cockpit Café & Lounge, open in our downtown Vancouver terminal. The Cockpit serves up fresh BC beer & wine as well as spirits and great light food items for breakfast, lunch & dinner. What's more, our goGOLD passengers are offered a complimenrary beer or glass of wine - cheers to that!

Happy hour starts today at the Cockpit Cafe & lounge in downtown Vancouver! It's the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing libation and do some patio-based planespotting. Cheers to that! #coalharbour #vancouverseawall #patioseason #thursdayisthenewfriday #veryvancouver #cxh #vhfc #vcc

Wheel -DealPassengers visiting our Victoria and Comox terminals can now tour their desinations on two wheels at the Seawall Adventure Centre locations that opened this summer. Offering bicycle and stand-up paddleboard (Comox only) rentals, these great additions help show off the vibrant communities we are proud to fly to. Victoria also offers tours too, check it out!

Bikes -YWH

Not to Mention...So many other great things happened this year too, and we'd be remiss if we didn't mention how cool it was to see the Martin Mars water bomber visit Vancouver Harbour, Tantalus Air's Pilatus visit the arctic on an extended charter, many injured seals fly to get the help they need at the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mamal Rescue Centre and so much more!

Stay tuned as we look back at who flew in 2016, what we were up to in our communities, Turbo's many appearances and more! And don't forget to follow our adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
