Our Holiday Favourites
What does your perfect Christmas celebration look like? Sitting around a fire, warm drink in hand, the glow of tiny blinking lights nestled in the tree?
Or maybe it’s the look on a child’s face as they unwrap their gifts - surely they appreciate the sentiment more so than the gift itself, right?
Maybe that’s wishful thinking. Maybe you don’t celebrate Christmas at all, but you still take advantage of the holidays, a time where the world slows down (eventually) and reflects on the things that truly matter: health, home and happiness.
For the entire team at Harbour Air, the holidays are a special time to spend with loved ones. No matter where your home might be, we hope you find yourself there this holiday season surrounded by friends and family.
With that, here are a few of our favourite holiday traditions, should you need some new ideas this year.
Favourite Holiday Activity
The overwhelming favourite is spending time with family. People are so busy these days that the holidays are the only time to make up for a year’s worth of visiting, sharing memories and sure, the occasional argument about who gets to place the star atop the tree.
Other notable favourites from the crew at Harbour Air:
- Putting up the tree
- Moments shared over Christmas cocktails & baking treats
- Writing & sending cards – isn’t it so nice to receive a hand –written note?
- Hanging stockings, decorations and holiday décor
- Opening gifts (you’re never too old for this one!)
- Two words. Secret Santa
We’ve all got unique Christmas memories from our childhood. For me, I remember my elementary school’s annual Christmas concert. Going to the school when it was dark stands out because it was such a surreal experience at the time, especially the bright green and red lights against the winter’s night sky. Thankfully, though, I don’t recall my performance in said concerts, and that was long before everyone had a camera in their pocket!
What’s your favourite tradition? Here are some of ours:
- Making Christmas dinner with friends and family
- Making snowmen (which can be challenging here on the west coast)
- Tobogganing (climate permitting)
- Christmas music (you know, the good stuff!)
- Quilting and Christmas crafts
Favourite Holiday Movie
No other holiday brings out the best (and sometimes the cheesiest) in cinema like Christmas. Unlike Halloween, which often deliberately attempts to create bad movies, Christmas movies are always centred around the spirit of the season. From giving to family to the true nature of Christmas, watching movies during the holidays while you’re recovering from gigantic meals is a tradition that’s always had a lot of traction.
Here’s a few of our favourite holiday films:
- The Grinch
- Home Alone
- A Christmas Story
- It’s AWonderful Life
- A Christmas Carol
- Love Actually
- Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer
- Charlie Brown Christmas
- A Christmas Card
- Black Christmas (original)
- National Lampoons Family Vacation
Who can forget watching A Christmas Carol during the holidays? Nothing captures the spirit of giving like transforming those who might initially be considered black of heart. Bah! Humbug!
No humbugging around here, the Harbour Air crew are happy and thankful for another year flying the world’s best customers all over BC’s Coast. Thanks for flying with us this year, and all the best of the season to you and yours!
Now go create some new traditions!
