Doing whatever we can to get you there
In British Columbia, our coast can be awe-inspiringly beautiful. It can also be rainy, windy, foggy, snow-covered or in some instances, a combination of all of the above. Although our reliability factor is 98%, on occasion, over the years we've seen what Mother Nature can dish out and have made alternative plans in order to help our guests get to their destinations safely, in almost any weather.
The safety and comfort of our guests is our number one priority. As you may know, our seaplane pilots fly by Visual Flight Rules (VFR), which mean that they have to be able to see where they're going to fly safely. Unlike larger commercial land-based aircraft, these amazing pilots can't use complex electronic instruments to see in the dark, the fog, or the clouds, in part because they have to land the aircraft on the water. For this reason, our pilots and ground operations teams have a constant eye on the sky. If the weather conditions are not optimal, it may cause us to cancel or re-route our flights for safety reasons.
At Harbour Air, if we can’t get you to your destination in times of poor weather, we'll work with our partners to help you on your way.
We regularly shuttle passengers from our downtown Vancouver, South Vancouver, Victoria and Comox bases to land-based flights operated by our partner airlines. On arrival, we provide a complimentary shuttle or taxi to the original destination base. When flying to- or from our Nanaimo base, we sometimes rely on the services of BC Ferries to get our guests where they need to be. If the services of our partners are also unavailable, we'll work with you to recommend another option.
In addition to providing alternate transportation when available, we always try our very best to communicate with our guests to keep them up-to-date with the status of our flight services. As a Harbour Air passenger, you may be contacted by email, phone or text with weather updates, so please make sure that we have your correct contact information. You can find the status of our flights on our website, www.harbourair.com or on our smartphone app, and of course, you can always call our toll-free reservations line and speak with a real, live human being as well.
Whatever your point of departure, and wherever you're headed, rest assured that we will do whatever we can to get you there safely, efficiently and in comfort. There's nothing that we'd like more than to fly you there ourselves, but if that can't happen, we've got you covered.
